North, South, and Hobbit

I finally got around to uploading some violin covers to YouTube. The first my sister, Sarah, filmed back in the summer - we were at the park during a festival (my band Night Crossing had just performed) and I thought the water would be a great setting. It's the theme I've Seen Hell from the BBC period drama North and South (I highly recommend it).

The second was another opportunity I didn't want to miss. I only get dressed up once in a blue moon, so I decided that I should go ahead and film The Hobbit music while I was ready for my godbrother's wedding. I didn't really know the songs by heart, but it'll have to do until I can cajole Sarah into playing with me later. Sorry for the blinkiness - I hate contacts.

Enjoy,
Longish

  1. That was really nice! I liked both of them a lot. I didn't realize you cut your hair! Granted, how many pics have I seen of you? ;D How would I know? I really liked your performance though. Although it DID look like you were very distracted, with the blinking! It was sorta funny, but I kept thinking of how much they must be irritating your eyes. Eesh.
    Good job!

    1. Yeah, I actually didn't realize I was blinking so much till I saw the video. I got the haircut in the fall, in between the two videos, actually. And I have almost NO pics of me on Facebook, so most people probably don't know that. ;D

  2. Wow, very impressed with both of these songs! The North and South theme is so hauntingly beautiful. :) Do you have sheet music for it, or did you just figure it out by ear? I would LOVE to be able to play that!

    1. Just by ear. It's a simple tune and very pretty. What do you play? :)

    2. I've been playing piano for 11 years, and only recently discovered the wide variety of movie soundtrack piano books for sale on Amazon! So that's what I've been playing lately (Harry Potter, Pride and Prejudice, Alice in Wonderland, etc). It's been pretty challenging, but so cool to recreate the music I love listening to. :)
What type of music do you enjoy playing?
